BG3 Thisobald Thorm (Location, Fight, Drink & Drops)

Whether you are exploring or aiming to find Madeline’s Ledger (part of the Punish the Wicked quest), you may end up discovering The Waning Moon.

The Waning Moon is a bar located in the Shadow-Cursed Land that is run by Thisobald Thorm and depending on your actions, you may end up fighting him.

Should you reach The Waning Moon, there are two ways for you to defeat Thisobald Thorm, with one way being more convenient than the other.

How To Defeat Thisobald Thorm?

Drink With Thisobald Thorm

Drinking With Thisobald Thorm

When you enter the bar, a cutscene will begin where Thisobald Throm demands that you drink with him, and this can be done by passing a Constitution Check.  (DC 14)

Aside from the Constitution Check, you can choose a Sleight of Hand (DC 18) instead, which will move you to the storytelling phase.

The storytelling phase includes the following options depending on what you have completed previously:

  • Mind flayer vessel (DC 21)
  • Verdant grove of druids (DC 18)
  • Goblins’ vile rituals (DC 18)
  • Silver-tongued devil (DC 18)
  • Great tower (DC 16)
  • Lost Fortress (DC 16)
  • Deal with a creature of purist sin (Warlock Class)

After the first round of storytelling, you will need to drink again, and this will require you to pass a Constitution Check (DC 16) or Sleight of Hand Check (DC 18) to continue.

The next set of storytelling options includes those about your triumphs in battle or slaying beasts that you have done in the past, which include:

  • Imps (DC 18)
  • Owlbear Mother (DC 18)
  • Hobgoblin Dror Ragzlin (DC 18)
  • Hag (DC 16)
  • Phase Spider (DC 16)
  • Bulette (DC 16)
  • Towering creature (DC 16)
  • Inquisitor (DC 16)

After the final rounds of drinking, Thisobald Thorm will have had too much and ends up exploding, leaving his guts behind for you to loot.

Failure to pass the Ability Checks or refusing to drink or tell stories will end up with Thisobald Thorm becoming hostile towards your party. (This includes the other Blighted Creatures in the bar)

Refuse or Attack Thisobald Thorm

attacking Thisobald Throm

If you end up failing or decide to attack Thisobald Throm, a battle between your party and everyone in the bar begins.

The Blighted Creatures are not much of a threat but should be dealt with to avoid taking extra damage and when it comes to Thisobald Thorm, he will be resistant to physical attacks.

Thisobald Thorm will be immune to Slashing, Piercing, Bludgeoning, and Thunder Damage but will take damage from other attacks.

You can deal damage to Thisobald Thorm with other elements but there is also an opportunity to deal more damage once he becomes Blackened Out.

After regurgitating multiple times, Thisobald Thorm will be weakened and stunned (Blackened Out) making him vulnerable to the following types of damage:

  • Slashing
  • Piercing
  • Bludgeoning
  • Thunder
  • Radiant
  • Force

This will be the time when you should unleash your stronger attacks or spells to deal more damage to him while he is weakened.

Thisobald Thorm Drops

When Thisobald Thorm is defeated, your party would gain 520 experience if he drank himself to death or 300 during battle as the Blighted Creature rewards you with 50 experience each.

You may interact with Thisobald Thorm’s body to obtain the following loot:

  • Worn Key (Unlocks door at the back of the bar)
  • 40 Gold
  • Barrel-Aged Callidyrran
  • 2 Ithbank
  • Esmeltar Red
  • 2 Carafe of Wine
  • Swarming Toadstool
  • Bonecap
  • Venomous Fang
  • Wyvern Stinger

Verdict

Defeating Thisobald Thorm will allow you to access the rest of the bar, which includes the planks near the dispensers that may be accessed to get the ledger.

The back of the bar leads to a storage room and will allow you to find the necessary ingredients and recipe for Thisobald’s Brewed-up Bellyglummer. (Poison)

It is better to have Thisobald drink himself to death as the experience you gain will be the same as when you fight him and the Blighted Creatures.
