If you have made it to the part in the game where you have to fight Viconia DeVir and the cultists in the Cloister of Sombre Embrace, you are faced with a choice when she is defeated.
Shadowheart will no longer care about Viconia DeVir and leaves the decision to you whether you will end the Mother Superior’s life.
While some players are worried about the effects that this will have at the end of the game, some are just concerned about loot and we have checked the different possibilities for you.
Choosing Viconia’s Fate
If for some reason the Mother Superior, Viconia DeVir does not die, you can speak to her afterward to decide her fate. (With Shadowheart usually in your party)
Shadowheart lets you choose and you have two options, which are to kill her on the spot (Shadowheart already leaves at this point) or to spare her.
Deciding to kill her will have your character take out a dagger and stab Viconia while sparing her will cause your character to tell her to leave.
Killing Viconia will of course allow you to loot her equipment but for those who want to let her live and are wondering if you can pickpocket her items, things will be different.
Your choice at this point in the game will not have any negative or positive effects on the story, making it safe to do whatever you like unless you are in the role-playing mood.
Pickpocketing Viconia
If you decide to spare Viconia, this will result in her getting up and walking away before she disappears but sometimes, she will just lie down and disappear instantly.
With one of your characters, you can quickly sneak up to her and pickpocket her items as they will be easy to get for some reason.
The thing is, you won’t be able to get any of her equipment and instead, you will only be able to steal the following items:
- Viconia’s Personal Chest Key
- 67 Gold
- Pearl
- Sapphire
Looting Viconia’s Body
If you decide to kill Viconia, you will be able to loot some powerful key that may be useful for certain characters and builds.
Viconia will not drop some of the items that you would get when pickpocketing her, which is strange as you will only be able to obtain the following:
- Viconia’s Personal Chest Key
- Viconia’s Priestess Robe
- Handmaiden’s Mace
- Viconia’s Walking Fortress
There is a way to get more loot from Viconia if you decide to kill her, which would be to spare her before checking her inventory by pickpocketing and killing her afterward.
You may also pickpocket Viconia to get loot from her and kill her afterward to get the equipment mentioned above.
Verdict
The choice you make will not affect Shadowheart’s approval and will have no further impact in the game as sparing her will cause her to disappear as well.
Maximizing the amount of loot you get from her won’t be necessary since you should be wealthy by the time you reach Act III, making her pieces of equipment the only important items to get.
Sparing Viconia’s may not be the best choice as you will be left out when it comes to useful gear, especially the Handmaiden’s Mace, which boosts its wielder’s Strength to 18.
