The type of Pal that you have determines which Pals it will deal more damage to as well as which Pals can deal more damage to it since they all have elements.
Being able to determine which Pals will be more effective against certain enemies is a huge step when it comes to ensuring the majority if not all your battles end up with you winning.
Pal Weaknesses
Pal weaknesses are determined by their elements and each Pal will have either a Single Element or will have Dual Elements.
This can be viewed in several ways such as on your HUD when they are summoned or when viewing your party as well as in your Paldeck.
Having Pals with different elements can be useful when you are traveling since you will be prepared to face more than just one Pal Type or Element.

Above is a chart showing the damage dealt with certain types against other elements, with 50% being weakened damage, 200% being increased damage, and blanks meaning normal damage.
Single Type Vs Dual Type
Some Pals may have more than one type or element, which gives them the advantage of having more choices for skills but also the disadvantage of being weak against multiple types.
It is even possible for a dual type of Pal to have two elements that are weak against a single element, which causes a disadvantage.
When choosing a Pal with dual types, it is important to consider the weaknesses that they may have against certain elements.

Capturing Pals that have single types can be useful in a battle if you are going up against Pals that have multiple weaknesses sometimes.
It would be good to have a party that consists of Pals with different elements to combat other types of Pals and avoid having a group that is weak against a single element.
