The Toll Collector’s Vault is a location found in The Risen Road, which is located under the Toll Collectors Building that you often find near the location where Karlach appears.
This area is often discovered during the quest called Hunt the Devil, which has you helping Karlach slay servants of Zariel who are pretending to be Paladins of Tyr.
The Vault Door is not like most doors or gates that you may find as you cannot pick its lock, but should you find a way to open it, a lot of loot can be found.
Where is the Toll Collector’s Vault Door?
The Vault Door inside the Toll Collector’s Building can be found by entering the Ornate Wood Hatch, which can be accessed in the room with a desk.
The Ornate Wood Hatch is not locked and may be entered freely but the Vault Door found inside of the basement that it leads to will be locked.
You can find the Toll Collector’s Building just to the north of where you find Karlach and should be making your way there if you have recruited and offered to help her.
How To Open Toll Collectors Vault Door?
1) Use Toll Collector’s Key
One of the easiest ways to open the Vault Door is to find the Toll Collector’s Key, which will open the Vault Door if you have it in one of your character’s inventory.
With the Toll Collector’s Key in your possession, you may simply interact with the door, and this will unlock it but beware there are traps inside.
These are mostly vents and if you carefully enter the rooms, one of your characters is likely to be able to spot them with a Perception Check.
2) Destroy Vault Door
If your character is strong enough to deal a good amount of damage, you can attempt to attack the Vault Door to destroy it.
Depending on the role taken for the attack, you will have a chance to damage the door, which will eventually break it and allow you to enter.
Keep in mind that not all attacks will be successful as some may turn out to deal no damage at all but some attacks may end up destroying the door in one or two hits.
Where To Find Toll Collector’s Key?
The Collector’s Key is often found on the ground just to the opposite path from where you go to find Karlach and will often be seen if you highlight items in the area.
This is just below the cliff where you can find the Toll Collector’s Building, making it one of the easiest keys to find which leads to a lot of loot.
Collector’s Vault Puzzle
Within the second room, you will find that there are two stone chairs and if you have your character sit on one of the chairs it will appear to trigger something, but nothing happens.
What you need to do is have two characters sit on each of the stone chairs since there are two in the room and once this is done, the hidden passage will open.
Beyond the hidden passage will be a room full of more loot, which you will now be able to take as long as the chairs are occupied. (Use another character to loot the room)

This is not a complete list of all the items within a vault but instead, it is some of the more valuable items that may be found inside the 3 rooms.
Hidden Entrance to the Vault
If you do a bit of looking around, you will notice that there is a Burrow Hole behind the Toll Collector’s Building
This is enough for small creatures to enter, which may be accessed by transforming or disguising yourself if you have the spells to do so.
The Burrow Hole may be used as an alternative way to get into the vault, which works as another way for you to grab the loot and avoid conflict with the enemies in the building.
Verdict
Finding the vault can be done early in the game without facing too many enemies, except for the ones that are hunting Karlach.
Being able to loot the fault can be a quick way to obtain several items that can either be useful in combat or sold for a good amount of Gold.
Keep in mind that the traps may be disarmed, which is a good way to avoid taking unnecessary damage since there won’t be any enemies within the vault.
