How To Recruit Gale in Baldur’s Gate 3

Gale is an Origin Character that you can recruit as a companion, who is a well-known Wizard that you encounter during the first act of Baldur’s Gate 3.

This Wizard can cast several spells to damage your enemies and may shift to different Subclasses based on what kind of magic you want him to use.

Gale is first encountered during the start of Act I, where you help him escape a sticky situation involving him getting stuck in a portal.

Where To Find Gale?

Gale is encountered early on after the quest called Escape from the Nautiloid and can be found at the Roadside Cliffs.

The portal he is in will be occupying the waypoint in the Roadside Cliffs, making it hard to miss him since you will eventually unlock the waypoint.

It is here that you will find a portal instead of Gale and may eventually help him escape it if you decide to be kind to a stranger stuck in a portal.

How To Recruit Gale?

approaching the portal to save Gale

To recruit Gale, you will first need to help him out and this means approaching the portal and playing through the cutscene.

Once the cutscene begins, your character will approach the portal when suddenly a hand sticks out with Gale asking anyone in the area for help.

You can choose to save him by pulling him out with a Strength Skill Check, which leads to a conversation where Gale will join your party.

If you leave the portal, Gale will remain inside until you come back to help and if you leave him without having him join you, he will wait in the same spot until you come back.

Gale Uses

Gale is a powerful Wizard, who uses spells to damage enemies and change the tide of battle with the magic that he has control of.

Early in the game, his spells may be used to damage enemies from a distance as well as cause certain environmental effects.

As Gale levels up, you can choose new spells and even change his Subclass to provide you with different spells to cast and adjust your playstyle with him.

Gale Romance

Gale can be romanced by both male and female characters and is quite easy to become close with due to his friendly personality and his likeness to share magic with you.

He likes it when your dialogue and actions lead to conflicts being resolved and is happy with those who share an interest in the arcane arts as he does.

Gale dislikes it when innocents are put in harm’s way and when acts of unnecessary violence are done, which includes siding with the Goblins to murder those in Druid’s Grove.

How To Revive Gale?

When Gale dies, an event is triggered where his ghostly form will be encountered in a cutscene, which requires certain steps to be taken to resurrect him.

This includes looting Gale’s Pouch from his body and this needs to be done quickly as Necrotic Damage occurs to those within range of his body after he dies.

The following are the steps you need to take to resurrect Gale:

  • Grab his pouch
  • Unthread purple seam counterclockwise
  • Take the letter
  • Use the flute to play the notes “D, E, A, D” individually
  • Answer the summoned Mephit with “K’ha’ssji’trach’ash”
  • Give the letter to the Mephit

Gale Game Over

Gale is the host of the Netherese Orb, which is a powerful concentration of magic that needs to be fed Weave, or else it will cause a destructive explosion that causes a cataclysmic event.

Should Gale not be able to consume Weave by being provided magical items, the orb within him will explode and this will lead to a Game Over.

Other ways that a Game Over may occur are the following:

  • Gale being dead after three long rests
  • Casting Netherese Orb Blast

Verdict

Gale is a powerful Wizard to have but he needs to sustain himself with magical items, which makes it good to set them aside when he asks for them.

Eventually, Gale’s hunger for magic items may be sated but until then, you will need to progress with the game and provide him with what he needs.

Having Gale in your party is a great way to deal high amounts of damage but he is a squishy character and can easily be killed if you don’t watch out for him.
