Act III has a lot for you to encounter and eventually, you find yourself mixing up with a treacherous creature that you met previously.
Before all this happens, you might stumble upon a group of survivors who are tormented by a certain hag and end up helping them out in the Help The Hag Survivors quest.
This so-called group has also had its share of encounters with Auntie Ethel, who seems to still be causing trouble somehow.
How To Start The Help The Hag Survivors Quest?
This quest can be started in multiple ways but is mainly found after reading a poster (Anti-Hag Support Group Poster) that is found in several places in the Lower City.
Another way to start the quest would be to head to where the survivors are and speak with them or even search for them after progressing with the Save Vanra quest.
Helping The Hag Survivors
To discover the group of Hag Survivors, you will want to start by reading a poster that the group had been putting up around the Lower City.
Some of the earliest places would be the board near Basilisk Gate or at the Elfsong Tavern and once the poster has been read, you may head to the marked location.
This leads you to an abandoned building as it turns out the group has been evicted and you will find a note on the table written by Kled, which reveals where they have moved.
The group has moved to Old Garlow’s Place, which is south of the Lower City Central Wall and the door to the building will be locked.
You can pick the lock safely as it is not outlined in red and upon approaching the group, a cutscene will begin where you are confronted.
Passing an Ability Check will allow you to convince them that you are not an enemy and once this is done, it will be revealed that they are with Mayrina, who has been hexed.
Mayrina has been turned into a sheep and if you notice, there will be a strange Voodoo Doll upstairs that continuously giggles.
Speaking to Mayrina (in her sheep form) may be done with the Speak with Animals spell and this will cause her to mention the doll.
You will also be able to read a part of her journal on the table near her and Connor, which mentions her continuously seeing the doll, which needs to be destroyed.
This requires that you destroy the doll but each time it is damaged, Mayrina will also be hurt by a small amount, making it necessary to deal as much damage with fewer hits.
Successfully destroying the doll will turn Mayrina back to her human form and you will be confronted by Jatlo.
It is revealed that Jatlo is a spy for Auntie Ethel, who is still alive and tormenting the group, which results in the spy attacking you.
Once you have dealt with Jatlo, speaking to Mayrina will allow her to explain what has been going on and will later end the quest.
This starts another quest called Avenge the Hag Survivors, which later has you searching for Auntie Ethel to kill her once and for all.
Help The Hag Survivors Reward
Completing the Help the Hag Survivors quest will reward you with the Staff of Interruption, which may be useful later when fighting the hag thanks to its Level 5 Counterspell feature.
Additionally, this will give you the Avenge the Hag Survivors quest, which will be your attempt to defeat Auntie Ethel for good and help you with the Save Vanra quest.
At the end of the quest, Mayrina will provide you with research on how to stop the hag, which includes a way to unlock Hag’s Bane to make her vomit, releasing Vanra. (Obtained from Safe)
Verdict
If you did a bit of exploring in Act I, you may have met Mayrina and saved her in the Save Mayrina quest, which had you face off against the hag.
It turns out that Auntie Ethel has survived and will keep coming back until the source of her immortality has been put to an end.
You will want to complete this quest and obtain the Avenge the Hag Survivors quest to successfully defeat Auntie Ethel and keep Vanra alive in the Save Vanra quest.
