How to Get Second Marriage & What It Does in Baldur’s Gate 3

While trying to save Mayrina, you eventually defeat Auntie Ethel and get blamed by the damsel in distress for ruining her deal.

You later find a wand that can be used to resurrect the dead, which is called Bitter Divorce, and it has Connor (Mayrina’s husband) written on it.

This later allows you to reanimate Connor and if you decide to keep the wand for yourself, you gain a useful item that allows you to summon him at any time, the Second Marriage.

How To Get Bitter Divorce?

Bitter Divorce is found in the Acrid Workshop

The Bitter Divorce is needed to start a cutscene with Mayrina that allows you to resurrect Connor, and you can find this after defeating Auntie Ethel.

You will find the Bitter Divorce in the Acrid Workshop along with other items that the hag has been working on in her pastime.

The Bitter Divorce may be found on top of a table and once you pick this up, you use it once you meet up with Mayrina.

How To Get Second Marriage?

To get the Second Marriage, all you need to do is take the Bitter Divorce and bring it to Mayrina, who will now be near her husband’s coffin.

During the cutscene with Mayrina, you can choose dialogue that will allow you to use the wand to resurrect Connor, but this reanimates him into a zombie.

You will have a choice, which is to give the wand to Mayrina so she can take Connor to Baldur’s Gate or keep the wand, which will turn it into the Second Marriage.

What Does Second Marriage Do?

Using Second Marriage to summon Connor

The Second Marriage allows you to summon Connor at any time you please, giving you another character to control for a few turns.

This allows you to either attack enemies with Connor or to use him out of battle to trigger traps or scout ahead without worrying about losing anyone.

If Connor’s time runs out or if he is defeated, you can always summon him again later by using the Second Marriage again.

Should You Keep Second Marriage?

Keeping the Second Marriage will allow you to summon Connor when you need to make use of him but this is considered as a mean act towards Mayrina.

Mayrina will want to keep Connor although he is zombified and will take him to Baldur’s Gate if you surrender the Bitter Divorce.

If you allow Mayrina to keep Connor (and the wand) you may later encounter the couple when you reach Baldur’s Gate.

Verdict

They say that love has no bounds and Mayrina has gone to a lot of trouble to bring Connor back to life, which involves giving up her unborn child to Auntie Ethel.

Just like all the others who have asked the hag for help, it seems that Auntie Ethel tricked Mayrina as well, giving her a sweet deal that turned out to have a bitter aftertaste.

The choice of giving Connor to Mayrina will not have much of an effect on the outcome of your story but some prefer to do this since it feels like the right thing to do.
