Noxious Fumes are one of the types of gasses that can be released from vents, which are traps that hinder your party.
These can be a nuisance and will eventually damage the characters in your party if they pass through them and fail to make saving throws.
Luckily, there is a way for you to bypass these traps and even disable them, which is important since the Noxious Fumes don’t just damage you but are flammable too.
What Does Noxious Fumes Do?
Standing in Noxious Fumes will apply the Noxious Fumes condition, which causes affected entities to take 1-4 Poison damage with each turn.
Failing a Constitution Saving Throw while affected by Noxious Fumes will cause the affected characters to take an additional 2-8 Poison damage.
Should the Noxious Fumes be ignited by attacks, spells, and other types of damage that can ignite it, the fumes will explode to deal damage to characters in the area.
How To Remove Noxious Fumes?
Noxious Fumes may be removed by blocking the vents as this will prevent fumes from coming out and once blocked, you can disarm the vents.
Disarming the vents may require a higher skill check, making it better to block the vents and proceed instead. (You can block the vents with almost any item)
Should there be Noxious Fumes in the area after blocking the vents, you can wait until the fumes are gone or ignite them from a distance.
Noxious Fumes encountered in the Ancient Abode (where you search for Mayrina) often have Peculiar Flowers that may need to be destroyed or disarmed to avoid damage.
Blocking Vents
Blocking Vents may be done by selecting an item from your inventory and throwing it from a distance, which can easily be done if you pass a Perception Check first.
Passing a Perception Check can be done by moving characters near the Noxious Fumes just close enough to reveal the location of the vent.
It is possible to click and drag an item from your inventory to toss it a short distance, but throwing is a safer method, and it is much easier to block the vent if you target it directly.
You can use almost any item to block vents and these may include books, equipment, and any other type of items that don’t break when being thrown.
Destroying Peculiar Flowers
Peculiar Flowers can sometimes be found while you explore and if you are on the way to fight Auntie Ethel, you will find these near Noxious Fumes
These are considered traps and may explode if a member of your party steps on them, but you may shoot these from a distance to trigger the explosion.
Another way to disable Peculiar Flowers is to have a character approach and disarm them to prevent them from exploding.
Verdict
Noxious Fumes can be a quick way to decrease the health of your party, making it important to avoid passing through areas with them.
It is best to block the vents that produce Noxious Fumes so that your party may safely pass areas where they are present and avoid getting blown up.
Peculiar Flowers may be triggered from afar by attacking them to ignite the Noxious Fumes, giving you a short amount of time to take care of the vents or to run through the area.
