BG3 Owlbear Cub (How to Get & Location )

The Owlbear Cub is a creature in Baldur’s Gate 3 that has gotten the attention of many players due to how cute it is and the possible benefits there may be.

While this creature does not end up as a familiar or an NPC that follows you around, they do make a nice addition to your camp and have a purpose later.

To get the Owlbear Cub, there are a few steps that you need to take, and this involves fighting its mother and rescuing it later.

Where To Find Owlbear Cub?

The Owlbear Cub is initially found inside of the Owlbear Nest, which can be found by heading west from the Emerald Groves Environs waypoint.

Later once the Owlbear Cub’s mother is killed, you will eventually find the Owlbear Cub in the Goblin’s Camp being used for a game.

Initially, this game involves a chicken but after the Owlbear Cub’s mother dies, the chicken will be replaced, and the cub will be used in the Goblin’s “Chase the Chicken” game.

Can You Save The Owlbear Cub?

After killing the Owlbear Cub’s mother, you can decide whether to spare the cub or you will end its life, leaving the others to watch and leave it alone afterward.

You may notice that the Owlbear Cub goes missing after a long rest and this is because the Goblins have captured it.

Saving the Owlbear Cub will require you to head to the Goblin Camp and find a way to take it from its Goblin captors.

How To Get Owlbear Cub?

Owlbear Cub with Krolla

Following the death of the Owlbear Cub’s mother, you will need to do a long rest to ensure the cub can be found in the Goblin Camp.

Once you reach the Goblin Camp, you may speak with Krolla and ask about the game that they are playing, which is “Chase the Chicken” but instead of a chicken, they will use the cub.

If you can’t speak to Krolla about the game, you will need to interact with Volo first so that he is removed before you can get the Owlbear Cub.

You can refuse to play and interact with the club to unlock a new dialogue with Krolla, where you can say that you will be taking it with you.

This will require an Ability Check to ensure the Owlbear Cub is released, and it will soon follow you to your camp.

The same may be done if you slaughter the Goblins at the camp but this has a chance for the cub to get killed. (Speak with the Owlbear Cub after clearing out the enemies in the area.)

Once you rest again, the Owlbear Cub will arrive at your camp and eventually stay after some time has passed.

Will The Owlbear Come Back If Startled?

Owlbear Cub visits you during your next long rest

After you have released the Owlbear Cub from Krolla, it will visit you during your next long rest and may be fed before Shadowheart startles it, causing it to run.

Another long rest will result in the Owlbear Cub returning but this time with an injured paw, which you can heal during the cutscene.

Being friendly towards the Owlbear Cub will result in it being in your camp the next morning, making it a permanent member of your camp.

What Does the Owlbear Do?

After you have recruited the Owlbear Cub (done by the mentioned methods above), this cute pet will remain in your camp.

The Owlbear Club may have an event where it has nightmares as this will work if Speak with Animals is active with one of your characters.

Scratch will appear and will get the Owlbear Cub to calm down, which gives the two a bit of lore that they both share.

Should the Owlbear Cub be in your camp and the blacksmith Dammon still be alive in Act Three, the Owlbear Cub will later become an Armoured Owlbear that assists in the final battle.

Verdict

The Owlbear Cub is merely a pet that you can have at your camp and if you have Scratch too, the two of them can often be seen playing together.

What surprised most of the players was when they witnessed the Owlbear Cub become a big help when it came to the final battle in Act III.

Unfortunately, the Owlbear Cub cannot be summoned and will only remain at your camp until Act III, but it is still a cute pet to have every time your party rests.
