One of the earlier materials that you need to start crafting is Nails, which become available once you unlock it at Level 10 in your Technology Menu.
Unlike other materials, this is mainly obtained through crafting and this will require that you first obtain Ore and process it into Ingots.
Nails are needed for crafting some of the better equipment that you will be using and are necessary for building different structures.
How To Get Nails?
1) Crafting Nails
Nails can be crafted once you have smelted Ingots from Ore and may be crafted at a Primitive Workbench or better ones after you have unlocked them.
Each time you queue this material in a workbench, you will be producing 2 Nails for every 1 Ingot that is consumed but this is crafted one by one. (Nails are unlocked in Technology at Level 10)
After selecting to craft Nails as well as how many pieces you will be making, you may manually craft or wait for a Pal to do it for you. (You and a Pal can work on it together to craft it faster)
2) Looting Junkyards
Junkyards were added to Palworld when the Sakurajima Update was introduced and players can loot these to get various items.
Among these items are Nails, which can be a decent way to get this material earlier when you have not progressed as much.
This can be a big help when you plan on constructing or crafting while you have not yet stumbled upon Ore Nodes and do not have access to creating Ingots yet.
Nail Uses
Nails are mainly used for crafting most of the structures that you will be needing during the game, especially the Assembly Lines that allow you to craft newer items.
One of the earliest uses for Nails is for crafting various types of Crossbows, which provide players with higher damage than a bow at the cost of longer reloads.
Multiple buildings that range from storage, beds, and other structures require Nails, making this material important for base building.

Verdict
Nails are not that hard to come by as they only require an Ingot for two pieces but later as you progress, you will notice that you will need more and more of these.
Luckily you can always leave a bunch of these crafting at a workbench and let your Pals finish them up for you while you tend to other things.
It is a good idea to have a stock of Nails just in case you need to craft or if you plan on continuing with using a crossbow since they are also needed to repair it.
