Baldur’s Gate 3 Infernal Iron (Location, How to Get & Uses)

In Baldur’s Gate 3, you will come across several valuable items that may be sold or may have certain uses for later.

One of these items is Infernal Iron, which comes in different forms but has the same use and is considered valuable.

Collecting Infernal Iron can be done throughout all the acts, but these are in specific locations, limiting how much you can get.

How To Get Infernal Iron?

Infernal Iron can only be looted from chests, areas, and enemies or purchased from certain NPCs that you encounter on your journey.

Some of these may be found in chests that lay in plain sight while others are hidden in storages that you need effort to reach.

The majority of these are found in chests while some may need to be taken by defeating enemies or pickpocketing.

Infernal Iron Uses

Infernal Iron is required by Dammon to craft certain items when you meet him in the Last Light Inn, which requires him to survive.

Crafting Equipment with Dammon

Giving Dammon Infernal Iron will allow him to craft equipment in the following order:

  • Flawed Helldusk Armor (Rare Heavy Armor) – Reduces piercing damage by 1 and has a chance to deal 1d4 Fire damage to attackers.
  • Flawed Helldusk Helmet (Rare Helmet) – Improves wearer’s saving throws against spells by 2.
  • Flawed Helldusk Gloves (Rare Gloves)  Grants 1d4 Fire damage to weapon attacks. Unarmed attacks deal an additional 1d4 Necrotic damage with a chance to inflict bleeding.

The Hellion’s Heart (Upgrading Karlach’s Heart)

Karlach’s heart has been replaced with an Infernal Engine, which is defective but during your journey, you can help her get it fixed by seeking out Dammon.

  • The first time you provide an Infernal Iron to upgrade Karlach’s Heart will provide her with the Heart of Iron passive feature.
  • The second time you provide an Infernal Iron (At the Last Light Inn) will provide her with the Heart Ablaze passive feature, which replaces Heart of Iron.

Karlach’s Heart Upgrades

Upgrading Karlach’s Heart will eventually improve her, replacing the first passive feature with a new one with the second upgrade.

The following are the effects of her passive features:

  • Heart of Iron – Grants Karlach an Advantage on Saving Throws against Charmed effects.
  • Heart Ablaze – Grants Karlach Immunity to Charmed effects.

Other Terms for Infernal Iron

Throughout the game, you will encounter a lot of Infernal Iron and some of these will have different names but have the same uses.

These include the following:

  • Infernal Iron
  • Infernal Alloy
  • Infernal Metal
  • Enriched Infernal Iron

Verdict

As you progress through the game, you will have enough chances to obtain more than enough Infernal Iron for the items Dammon provides and Karlach’s Heart Upgrades.

The equipment Dammon provides in exchange for Infernal Hearts can be useful with certain builds, especially when you have progressed further into the game.

Karlach can be unstoppable when it comes to facing certain enemies since she can resist Charmed effects when her heart has been upgraded.
