BG3 Handmaiden’s Mace (How to Get, Passive Features & Stats)

Certain weapons in the game sometimes escape us depending on the choices we make and one of these weapons is the Handmaiden’s Mace.

This Very Rare Mace can be a game changer, especially if you have a spellcaster or cleric such as Shadowheart who keeps missing their melee attacks.

The Handmaiden’s Mace provides its wielder with a huge boost to their strength and also allows you to deal additional damage with the ability to Poison your targets.

Handmaiden’s Mace Passive Features

Strength Enhancement

The wielder of the Handmaiden’s Mace will have their Strength set to 18, which makes it easier for certain characters to boost their strength for melee builds.

This effect will have no use for characters that have 18 or higher Strength as the limit provided by this item is capped at that amount of Strength.

Poison Attack

While not mentioned in the weapon’s description, the Handmaiden has a chance to poison your targets if they fail a Saving Throw. (Not shown in Combat Log)

How To Get a Handmaiden’s Mace?

looting Handmaiden’s Mace from the body of Viconia DeVir

The Handmaiden’s Mace can be looted from the body of Viconia DeVir, who acts as a boss that you fight during the Investigate the House of Grief and Daughter of Darkness quests.

You will be able to loot this from her body if you have killed her in battle or decide to end her life after a cutscene where you talk to her after she has been defeated.

Pickpocketing Viconia after letting her go free will not allow you to take the equipment that she has, which includes the Handmaiden’s Mace.

Verdict

There are not a lot of items that can help make up for stats that some of your characters are missing and if you are trying to have a hard-hitting spellcaster, this is a useful weapon to have.

The passive boost in Strength will make it easier to hit enemies with melee attacks while also increasing the amount of melee damage that you do.

With the addition of dealing Poison damage and possibly inflicting the Poison condition upon your enemies, the Handmaiden’s Mace can be an extremely useful weapon for almost any character.
