While making your way to Baldur’s Gate, you witness screams coming from the Abandoned Windmill in Rivington and upon investigating, you find a newborn Mind Flayer.
This newborn Mind Flayer will be asleep and have a brain-starved condition, which gives you the option to take advantage and attack it or wake it up.
Attempting to wake up the Mind Flayer will result in it asking for your help as it requires a brain to feed on, which will result in you getting the Feed The Mind Flayer quest.
Where To Find The Brain-Starved Mind Flayer?
The Brain-Starved Mind Flayer may be found by going down a hatch that is located within the Abandoned Windmill found in Rivington.
Accessing the Abandoned Windmill will require you to pick the lock or destroy the door if you are capable of damaging it before you may go down the hatch that leads to the Mind Flayer.
How To Start Feed The Mind Flayer Quest?
Talking to the Mind Flayer will give you the option to attack it or to help it, which requires you to choose the right dialogue to trigger the quest.
To start the Feed The Mind Flayer quest, you will have to choose the “I can fetch you a corpse, freshly killed. Brain intact” option.
Choosing other options may not trigger the quest but you will still be able to feed the Mind Flayer if you bring what it needs. (You still get the rewards too)
How To Feed The Mind Flayer?
To Feed the Mind Flayer, you will need to bring it any corpse that you can find and there are plenty of choices within Rivington.
You can choose to kill any NPC but this may get you in trouble, or you can head to one of the locations where dead NPCs can be found.
Pick up any dead body and bring it back to the Mind Flayer and upon returning, you will have the option to offer the body to it.
If you cannot offer the body, select the “I’ll see what I can do” option and you should be able to offer the body that you have brought back.
A good source for a body would be the nearby Well located to the northwest of the Abandoned Windmill as you can find a Murdered Refugee once you climb down.
Feed The Mind Flayer Rewards
After you have helped the Mind Flayer, you will gain an additional point to allocate to your Illithid Powers. (Tadpole)
Additionally, the Mind Flayer will also give you the Ring of Truthfulness, which gives its wearer an advantage on Insight Checks.
Verdict
Helping the Mind Flayer that you find within the Abandoned Windmill is something that The Emperor wants you to avoid as they consider this a useless sympathy.
If you decide to kill the Mind Flayer instead of helping it, you will still be able to obtain a point for your Illithid Powers and loot the Ring of Truthfulness along with other items from it.
Killing a random NPC is optional but if you wish to avoid murdering anyone, bringing any corpse to the Mind Flayer will be enough to sate its hunger and complete the quest.
