Death Shepherds are undead enemies that you will rarely face as you adventure through the upcoming acts, which are often seen with other undead enemies.
This powerful undead enemy will attack you on sight, which also causes their minions to come charging at you if you face them in combat.
While few of these enemies are found in the game, they pose quite a threat to those who cannot quickly defeat them or counter their moves.
Death Shepherd Locations
Death Shepherds are first encountered in the Rosymorn Monastery Trail while more can be found as you progress through the acts.
You may encounter Death Shepherds at the following locations:
- Rosymorn Monastery Trail – 2 Undead Shepherds with Ghouls and a Ghast
- Moonrise Towers Prison – Encountered when during the Moonrise Towers assault
- Necrotic Laboratory – Found in the laboratory within a Mind Flayer colony
- Lower City Graveyard – A unique Death Shepherd named Garret Dortmell will be encountered if you assist Nina Dortmell in resurrecting him
Death Shepherd Abilities
1) Main Hand Attack
The Death Shepherd attacks its target with a Greatsword, dealing substantial normal weapon damage at melee range.
2) Reach from Beyond
Uses Myrkul’s decaying magic to defile a target, dealing 2d4 (2~8) + Spellcasting Modifier as Necrotic Damage to its target.
3) No Rest for the Wicked
Allows the Death Shepherd to raise a fallen undead target with half of its hit points, which requires a body nearby.
How To Defeat Death Shepherds?
Death Shepherds may have a lot of health at the start thanks to the Necrotic Veil condition, which grants them Temporary Hit Points.
Since Death Shepherds may resurrect undead creatures, it is important to take them out first or make use of a character who has Counterspell. (Cancels the No Rest for the Wicked spell)
Death Shepherds are resistant to certain attacks, which makes it necessary to inspect them first to determine what damage types you should use.
Once you have taken out the Death Shepherds, taking out the rest of its minions that fought alongside it will be a piece of cake.
These enemies have the Undead Ward Aura, which grants their undead allies’ resistance to Bludgeoning, Slashing and Piercing damage. (Take them out to remove the aura)
Verdict
Death Shepherds are some of the more intimidating enemies that you may face, especially when it is your first time seeing them roaming around the Rosymorn Monastery Trail.
Focusing your attacks on the Death Shepherds before their minions can lead to a fast victory against them as fighting countless resurrected enemies can be tiresome.
Not a lot of loot drops from Death Shepherds, but you can get a good amount of experience fighting them and may loot the area they found in.
