While venturing through the Underdark, you may stumble upon a Dead Drow and if you pass a Medicine Check, it will be revealed that his bones have been snapped like twigs.
You soon discover that the Drow’s death was caused by a large drop that they took from higher ground but what they were doing is the real question.
Heading to the side will reveal that there are mushrooms, and something lies at the top waiting for you that may prove to be useful.
Where To Find Dead Drow?
The Dead Drow can be found before you reach the Arcane Tower around the south of the Underdark Beach, which appears to have a secret passage.
If you continue making your way south instead of heading for the Arcane Tower, you will discover the Dead Drow as well as Mushroom Circle which seems to have no magic.
How To Activate Magic Circle?
If you head to the side of the wall where there are mushroom platforms, you will be able to pass Investigation Checks to see which ones are illusions.
The goal in the area is to jump onto the platforms until you reach the very top but some of these mushrooms that are illusions will make you fall.
This explains how the Dead Drow met their fate as it seems they took a fall after jumping on top of the wrong mushroom platform.
Once you reach the top, there will be another mushroom circle but this time, it has magic flowing from it and you can interact with this.
Upon interacting with the mushroom circle, you will be teleported to the other mushroom circle that previously had no magic.
This causes the two mushroom circles to be connected, allowing you to teleport from top to bottom and vice versa.
Hidden Entrance to Overgrown Tunnel
If you think that the mushroom is the only thing on top of the cliff, you have got it all wrong because there is a hidden passage nearby.
Approaching the stone wall near the mushroom circle on top of the cliff will reveal an illusion if you pass an Investigation Check.
Making your way through the illusion will bring you to another mushroom circle that has a different glow, which may be used to reach the Overgrown Tunnel. (Auntie Ethel’s Lair)
Verdict
It seems all too weird that there are different kinds of shortcuts leading from one place to another and this one that you have discovered is probably how Auntie Ethel gets her ingredients.
While this may not be as useful to others who have already progressed, being able to access the Overgrown Tunnel later, after or even before fighting the hag may be an advantage.
It is advisable to use one character to jump up on top of the mushroom platforms to avoid colliding with each other and multiple members getting hurt.
