When exploring the Grymforge, there are certain areas with secrets that are long forgotten and in one of the areas, a group of Mimics can be found.
These Mimics seem to be guarding an area that has a Harper Rune, which is a hint that a stockpile is hidden nearby.
This will often lead to players stumbling upon three chests in the area, which later on end up as a surprise attack from a 3 Mimics.
Mimic Location
The Mimics can be found around the west part of Grymforge from where you first dock and once you make your way south, you can find a Cragged Rock nearby.
Climbing down the Cragged Rock will allow you and your party to stumble upon the area with 3 chests, which are meant to lure you.
Upon approaching the proximity of one of the chests, a cutscene will begin where the Mimics reveal themselves.
How To Defeat Mimics?
Mimics are just as dangerous as any other enemy, but this also makes them easy to defeat since they do not have that many resistances. (They are only Immune to Acid)
During the fight, it is best to keep your melee characters in front to avoid your spellcasters and ranged characters from getting dragged to the Mimics.
Focus on taking one Mimic down at a time or else they will eventually group and pull one of your characters that they will attack.
Instead of making your way to the chests, it is better to make the first move and attack one of them at a distance to give you space during the fight. (This also prevents your party from being surprised)
Mimic Drops
Each Mimic will have a certain set of items on them, allowing you to loot the following from the Mimics when they have been defeated:
Mimic 1
- Wondrous Gloves (Rare Gloves) – Provides Troubadour’s Wonder passive, which increases your Armor Class by 1. (Also provides +1 use for Bardic Inspiration)
- Ruby Ring
- 28 Gold
Mimic 2
- Handaxe +1
- 70 Gold
Mimic 3
- Maul
- Greatsword
Toy Chest
After you have defeated the 3 Mimics, you will be able to find a Toy Chest on the right side (viewing where the chests are after you climb down) that triggers a Perception Check.
The Perception Check will reveal its location but regardless, you can interact with it as long as you go near it after it is found.
Interacting with the Toy Chest will cause the Harper Stash (Chest) to appear, which you will need to disarm before picking its lock.
The Harper Chest contains a Scroll of Evidence (Lore Item) and a Scroll of Protection from Energy that you may loot.
Verdict
The Mimics can be quite annoying due to their ability to pull you from a great distance and this can lead to one of your characters easily getting killed.
Focusing on one Mimic at a time is good for reducing the chance of your characters getting thrown all over the place.
While the Harper Stash does not contain the best loot, you can get good items from the Mimics that you defeat in the area.
