Gerringothe Throm is a unique undead enemy who endlessly believes that they are required to collect tolls from those who cross the river in the Shadow-Cursed Lands.
Upon encountering them, a cutscene will begin where you can either talk to them or choose to end things violently.
While fighting Gerringothe Thorm is an option that you can resort to, this may be difficult but there are other ways to defeat this Toll Collector.
Where To Find Gerringothe Thorm?
Gerringothe Throm is found on the second floor of the Tollhouse and will often be seen near the window, possibly overlooking the area to see who passes by.
Once you enter the Tollhouse, you won’t be attacked by any of the creatures within and may head to the Toll Collector to start a cutscene.
How To Defeat Gerringothe Thorm?
Dialogue During Cutscene
When speaking to Gerringothe Thorm, you can toss her a Gold Coin after she demands it and this can continuously go on if you keep selecting the option.
After tossing her a Gold Coin, you can choose the other dialogue options to pass Ability Checks, which will eventually lead to her ending her own life.
One of the common steps to defeating Gerringothe Throm would be to choose the following options during the cutscene:
- I don’t hand out so much gold for so little in return.
- Persuasion or Deception (DC 18)
- Persuasion, Deception or Intimidation (DC 21)
Passing the second check will result in Gerringothe Thorm killing herself, which provides experience equal to the amount that you would get if you defeated her and her minions in battle.
Attacking Gerringoth Thorm
Fighting Gerringothe Thorm can be very difficult even if you are well-equipped or have gained several levels by the time you are in Act II.
Defeating her requires you to have enough healing, and buffs and dish out as much damage as possible each turn before she gets to attack.
The use of Polymorph can be a big help to prevent her from attacking as she can take out one of your characters with a single spell.
When fighting Gerringothe, it is good to have your party spread out as her minions (Visages) deal damage in an area around them. (They don’t deal a lot of damage but can be annoying)
Gerringothe Thorm Drops
Once Gerringothe is defeated, you will be able to collect the Tollhouse Master’s Office Key, which unlocks the office near the area where she was found.
You will also find an Unsigned Trade Visa (Lore item that implies illegal trade was being planned) that would have been a signed variant if you gave over 5,000 Gold.
Additionally, Gerringothe will have 252 Gold in her inventory as well as the Twist of Fortune, a Rare Mace that gives you a chance to deal more damage.
The Twist of Fortune will automatically cause you to reroll if you roll 2 or less, which will cause the second roll to be used instead.
Verdict
Fighting Gerringothe Thorm is not the best decision since you can always resort to different ability checks to get the same results afterward.
If your character is having difficulties with the checks, it would be best to visit the Sharran Temple to get buffs to help you out. (Using potions or spells works too)
After defeating Gerringothe Thorm, you should explore and loot the Tollhouse for various riches that can be useful later.
