Upon reaching the Gauntlet of Shar in search of the Nightsong that is of great importance to Ketheric Thorm, you are faced with a challenge before being able to pass.
It seems that since you are in a Temple of Shar, you will need to face certain trials before you will be able to go after the Nightsong.
Trials will not be the only thing that provides you with a challenge while you are inside the Gauntlet of Shar, enemies will also be in the way.
How To Complete Gauntlet of Shar?
The Gauntlet of Shar has a set of challenges that need to be completed, which will provide you with access to an Umbral Gem for each one you complete.
This requires that you head to each challenge and complete them as only with all 4 of the Umbral Gems will you be able to reach the Shadowfell.
Exploring the area near the Pedestal of Reckoning will allow you to find the trials you need to complete so that you can bring all the Umbral Orbs.
Upon reaching the Pedestal of Reckoning with 1 Umbral Orb, you will be able to use a lift but on the other side is another pedestal that requires 3 more Umbral Orbs.
After placing the 3 Umbral Orbs in the pedestal, a door will open, and you may then enter the Shadowfell through the nearby entrance in the Verge of Shadows.
This allows you to make your way to the Nightsong, who is trapped, and depending on how you progress and who you have with you, what comes next will have different outcomes.
All Umbral Gem Locations
On the west part of the map are the original trials, which require you to partake in certain challenges to reach an Umbral Orb at the end.
The Umbral Orb on the eastern part of the map is found in plain sight but this is also where you need to deal with the Orthon name Yurgir.
Before entering the Mausoleum that leads you to the Gauntlet of Shar, Raphael has tasked you with killing Yurgir, which you can decide to do or not to do.
How To Complete All Gauntlet of Shar Trials?
Self-Same Trial
The Self-Same Trial pits you against a duplicate of each member of your party and they will be scattered around a small arena.
You can sneak your way around and position your members before attacking, which should end up with you defeating all of them and an Umbral Orb being dropped.
Your party members should only attack their duplicates or else they will gain the Cheater’s Folly condition, which reduces all Ability Scores by 1 until the next Long Rest.
Soft-Step Trial
The Soft-Step Trial tests your stealth capabilities as there will be a small maze that you need to navigate through to get to the room with an Umbral Orb in it.
Aside from there being a maze, Shadows will be roaming it and if you are spotted, you will be sent back to the entrance.
An easy way to complete this would be to take the entrance on the very right side and make your way to the end where you need to press a button. (This opens up a path that leads to the orb)
Faith Leap Trial
The Faith Leap Trial may sound a bit misleading since you don’t really leap or jump around and instead, you walk on the water until you reach the Umbral Orb.
The solution is right in front of the Sacrificial Bowl, which is a map showing which parts of the water you should walk on.
Follow the path on the ground in front of the Sacrificial Bowl and you will eventually reach the Umbral Orb.
Yurgir’s Umbral Orb
Obtaining the Umbral Orb from Yurgir is not one of the challenges but you will need to get it from him.
This requires you to head to his location and either kill or help him out of his contract with Raphael, which will leave his lair empty afterward.
Once Yurgir has been taken care of, you may approach his throne and take the Umbral Orb off of the steps to use later.
Entering The Shadowfell
After opening the door leading to the Shadowfell Entrance, you can continue with the Find Ketheric Thorm’s Relic quest.
This will lead you to progress with the Find The Nightsong quest, which pretty much starts connecting the story altogether.
Depending on if Shadowheart is in your party, the events of these quests may alter a bit and some serious decisions need to be made.
Verdict
The trials required to complete the Gauntlet of Shar are not that difficult to complete, especially since there are ways to bypass some of the mechanics such as using invisibility.
If Shadowheart is with your party, she will want to find a certain weapon called the Spear of Night and pursue her path of becoming a Dark Justiciar.
With multiple quests tied to the Gauntlet of Shar, it may be better to complete your other quests so that you are prepared for what lies ahead.
