The Grymforge has many secrets and one of them is the Adamantine Forge that you may use once you find its location but there is one thing in the way, the forge’s guardian.
Upon attempting to craft your first Adamantine Equipment, the Eternal Protector of the Forge (Grym) comes out to attack your party.
Made from Adamantine and almost impenetrable, this large construct proves to be one of the toughest challenges for those who are not prepared.
Grym Location
Grym, the Eternal Protector of the Forge is found on the lower part of the Adamantine Forge, but this construct doesn’t appear right away.
Once you reach the Adamantine Forge, you won’t run into Grym right away but instead, it appears once you start using the forge.
To get Grym to appear, you will need to place a Mithral Ore into the Crucible and a Mould inside of the Mould Chamber.
Once you activate the hammer by using a lever, the platform will descend and upon interacting with the valve to release the lava, a cutscene begins where Grym appears.
How To Defeat Grym?
When the fight starts, you will want to spread your characters out but avoid the lava as this can lead to your party getting killed.
Positioning the members of your party in different areas far from each other will make it easy to kit Grym and this is important because of its Vengeful Guardian passive feature.
Vengeful Guardian will force Grym to attack the last party member that lands a successful hit against it, forcing the construct to head to them.
Grym will mostly be undamageable until it gains the Superheated condition, which happens when it steps into the lava around the forge.
To make this happen, the lever needs to be pulled every time the condition is lost so that you may deal damage to it until the effect wears off.
When affected by the Superheated condition, Grym will take extra damage from Bludgeoning and half damage from Slashing, Piercing, Acid, Thunder, Cold, and Force.
A good way to deal damage to Grym is to get him to walk into the center of the forge after he has been affected by the Superheated condition.
This can be done by luring him by attacking him with your characters and once he stops in the center of the forge, you may use the lever to drop the hammer onto it.
Grym will sustain severe damage and will end up with the Prone condition, giving you an advantage against the construct.
A good thing to keep in mind is that some spells may knock down Grym and when it comes to activating the valve or using the lever, ranged attacks may work.
You will need to attack when necessary and skip some turns to make sure Grym walks back and forth being lured to your characters.
Combining this technique will prevent your characters from getting killed and is an easy way to defeat the construct.
Other Ways To Defeat Grym
Other ways to defeat Grym include charging at him with characters that are equipped with weapons that deal with Bludgeoning Damage. (Potion of Speed suggested for extra attacks)
There are other ways that you can deal damage to Grym, which involves characters staying out of the platform only to attack later or setting up a trap with explosives.
Depending on how you can effectively deal damage once Grym has been affected by the Superheated condition different approaches may be taken.
Grym Loot
After defeating Grym, you may open up its inventory and will find the Grymskull Helm, a Very Rare Helmet that prevents attackers from landing Critical Hits on the wearer.
Additionally, wearing the Grymskull Helm will provide Resistance to Fire Damage and allow you to cast the Hunter’s Mark Divination Spell.
Verdict
Fighting Grym for the first time can be quite a challenge for players who are unprepared but eventually things become easy to figure out.
The best way to avoid getting killed is to plan your attacks and lure him across the lava as this hinders its movement and eventually gets him stuck near the hammer.
The Grymskull Helm is a great item to wear as the protection against Critical Hits can be a big help in a fight, making it a very useful piece of equipment to have with you.
