Setting up your base in Palworld is often the first thing you will need to do and as you progress from a simple camp where you begin your journey, you will eventually need a main base.
Most of the time your base will often be in the starting area (The Plateau of Beginnings) and you will begin to discover more places to build as you explore.
Resources are not that difficult to get since you can progress and eventually build structures that provide them, which makes finding a base location more of a comfort for players.
How To Decide Where to Build The Base?
Building your base early on is often tied to the access of resources but when it comes to the late game, you should have everything you need by then.
A good way to go about it would be to have multiple bases where you can produce and collect different materials that you need for crafting and building.
It is best to keep in mind that the more difficult the area, the better the loot and the higher the level of enemies there will be.

Max Number of Bases
As you progress through the game, you can complete numerous objectives at your main base, which will allow you to upgrade it.
Upgrading a base will allow you to add more Pals to all your bases and the further you progress with the level of at least one of your bases, the more bases may be built.
Currently, the base number of bases that you can have after upgrading the level of your base allows you to have a total of 4 anywhere on Palpagos Island.
Verdict
Building your main base can sometimes take a lot of time to plan out, which makes it good to resort to outposts or a small main base until you find a good location.
Since you gain access to the more resources provided by building structures that provide them, it is best to find a spot that you will be comfortable in.
While bases can be built anywhere, the large patches of land with paths leading to them (or not) are often the ideal places to build your base.
