If you have seen the Jolthog, you may be surprised that there is another Variant of it known as the Jolthog Cryst, which is quite rare.
Jolthog Cryst is an Ice Variant of Jolthog, which has Ice Active Skills rather than Electric ones but this doesn’t mean it doesn’t have any Electric Active Skills either.
Obtaining this Ice Pal can be rather tricky as there is no given spawn location and it is often obtained by breeding or rescuing it from a camp.
Jolthog Cryst Location
The Jolthog Cryst currently has no given spawn location but you can still obtain this Pal by breeding it and if you are lucky, you may find it in one of the enemy camps.
Breeding a Jolthog Cryst requires you to have the right combination of Pals in a Breeding Farm while freeing it from a camp can be done if it spawns in one.
How To Breed Jolthog Cryst?
A sure way to get your hands on Jolthog Cryst would be to breed this Ice Pal, which can be done by having a Jolthog and a Pengullet placed on a Breeding Farm.
This will result in the two of them producing a Frozen Egg, which you can place into an Egg Incubator that will hatch a Jolthog Cryst.
Jolthog Uses
Jolthog Cryst doesn’t take up a lot of space (not that they have collision but it sometimes feels more comfortable without the bulky Pals around) and can be used to preserve food.
This is done by adding Jolthog Cryst to your base and/or assigning it to a Cooler Box or a Refrigerator, which will sit by and freeze.
Aside from helping preserve your food at your base, the Jolthog Cryst can be used as an Ice Grenade via its Partner Skill.
Partner Skill
You can turn Jolthog Cryst into an Ice Grenade in a sort of way as this is what its Partner Skill (Cold Bomb) does when you activate it.
To use Cold Bomb, you will need to first learn and craft the Jolthog Cryst’s Gloves, which allows you to use the Partner Skill.
Once you have activated Cold Bomb, your character will pick up Jolthog Cryst and may throw it to cause an icey explosion at the area of impact.
Work Suitability
Jolthog Cryst is only capable of providing cooling to structures at your base but this can be a good option if you don’t have any other Ice Pals to do this.

Verdict
While the Jolthog Cryst isn’t the strongest Ice Pal or the best at preserving food at your base, it is a good option during the earlier parts of the game.
Being able to throw the Jolthog Cryst to freeze enemies in an area can provide you with a good advantage over enemies in a fight or if you mean to capture Pals.
Since the Jolthog Cryst is rare, breeding it is considered to be the best way to obtain this Ice Pal as it does not have a fixed spawn location.
