Charcoal is one of the materials in Palworld that you will need to get your hands on if you decide to transition from bows and crossbows to better firearms.
This is because this is one of the materials that you will need to create Gunpowder, which is used to craft ammunition for different kinds of guns.
Not only is Charcoal used for creating Gunpowder though, it is also a material used for building other structures that become available once you progress.
How To Get Charcoal?
Charcoal can be crafted in any type of furnace, which includes the Primitive Furnace, Refined Furnace, and Electric Furnace. (This is already available once you have built a furnace)
Once you have a furnace built, you will need Wood before you can craft Charcoal and this will also require that you have a Fire Pal ready to work.
After selecting how many pieces you want to make, a Fire Pal (Kindling Skill required) will rush over and begin processing Wood into Charcoal.
Best Way To Get Charcoal
The best way to produce a lot of Charcoal is to make sure you first have a good stock of Wood, which is best if you have a Logging Site in your base.
Once you have a good supply of Wood, you will want to craft Charcoal in an Electric Furnace as this is the best option for burning Wood.
Assigning a Pal that has a Kindling Level of 3 or 4 would be best since the higher the Kindling Skill of your Pal, the faster they will craft Charcoal.
Another way to boost this process is to build a Flame Cauldron, which boosts the fire-making speed of Pals that have the Kindling Work Skill. (Multiple Flame Cauldrons do not stack)
Charcoal Uses
There are currently a few uses for Charcoal but it is mainly used when it comes to creating Gunpowder, which is used to craft various ammunition. (2 Charcoal and 1 Sulfur)
Aside from being used to make Gunpowder, Charcoal is also one of the requirements needed to make an Electric Furnace, which is the best among the 3 different types.
Other structures that require Charcoal are those from the Fireplace Set used for decoration and lighting as well as the Heater, which provides warmth in an area and protection against the cold.

The best way to have a good supply of Charcoal is to have Pals working at your base at a Logging Site, which provides you with an unlimited amount of Wood.
