How To Steal Offerings Without Getting Punished At Stormshore Tabernacle in BG3

If you are feeling a little bit mischievous and decide to make your way into the basement of Stormshore Tabernacle, you will eventually find offerings there.

These offerings are tributes meant for different gods and some of them have valuable loot in them and even offerings that you have made to them.

Taking the items from within the chests however will punish you, applying the Castigated by Divinity debuff that persists unless cured.

What Happens If You Steal From The Offerings Chests?

Stealing from the Offerings Chests found in the basement of the Stormshore Tabernacle will be punished the moment any item is taken out of the chests.

The punishment comes in the form of a debuff called Castigated by Divinity, which is a result of the gods being angered after you have stolen from the chests.

This debuff is almost permanent unless you die or have it cured using the Remove Curse spell used on the affected character.

What Does Castigated by Divinity Do?

Once you have gained the Castigated by Divinity debuff, you are in for a world of headaches as this will cause you to instantly die if your character becomes unconscious.

Additionally, if the character affected by the debuff is killed, a Deva, Djinni, or Cambion will appear from their corpse and attack your allies.

Characters that have the Castigated by Divinity removed by dying or with the use of the Remove Curse spell will have an enemy spawn as well.

Should the character affected by the debuff receive healing or take a rest (Short or Long), two enemies will spawn and attack.

How To Steal and Avoid Being Punished?

The mechanics of how the debuff is applied are simple and you will only be punished if you take an item or send it to another character. (Receiver is punished)

A workaround to avoid being punished would be to not take the items directly out of the chests but instead, destroy the chests and pick up the items.

By destroying the chests, the items will be considered dropped on the ground and this will not be an act of stealing from the chests. (Destroying the chest doesn’t get you punished either)

This makes it easy to not only steal what is in the chests but also allows you to take back any donations that you have made without consequences.

Some of the items in the Offerings Chests may be useful to certain characters, making it a bit necessary to take some while avoiding the punishments.

It is best to donate first to get the Anointed in Splendor buff first by donating before heading down to the basement to take your items and loot the chests to avoid issues later.

Destroying the chests and taking the loot that is dropped will have no consequences later when you leave the basement.
