If you stumble upon the Sword Coast Couriers building in Act III, you will meet a man named Danzo Arkwright, who is having trouble with his business.
It turns out that the letters that he has been sending using pigeons are not reaching their destinations, including an important letter of his.
You will need to find the culprit and the letters that have gone missing, which becomes your task in the Find The Missing Letters quest that you get after talking to him.
How To Find The Culprit?
The search for the letters does not provide any obvious hints, which makes it important to either explore or seek information but this won’t come from just any person.
You will have to speak to the Pigeon leader, who sits on top of a barrel on the second floor of the Sword Coast Couriers building.
This requires you to use Speak With Animals, which will have him later reveal that the pigeons are flying to the west, which is a path that passes by the Open Hand Temple.
You will then need to head to the roof of the Open Hand Temple, which can be done by climbing up some vines on the side of the building.
It is here that you will find Tara, who appears to be Gale’s Tressym (cat-like flying creature) companion, who loves to snack on pigeons.
Gale of course will ask her to stop once you give the word and after that, Tara goes away, leaving behind a ring for Gale and the letters intact.
How To Get The Missing Letters?
Once the cutscene with Tara is finished, you may simply approach the letters in the nest that Tara was at and pick them up.
The letters will be packed up and as requested, Danzo does not want you to open the letters, which means he might be hiding something.
Should You Open Danzo’s Letter?
Opening Danzo’s Letter does not have much of a consequence but rather an opportunity, which is to extort him for more Gold as a reward.
If the letters are opened, it will be revealed that Danzo has been doing business with the Zhentarim, which will get him in trouble.
The letter mentions an Iron Flask, which was part of the shipment that you may have encountered in Act I that holds a Spectator.
Find The Missing Letters Rewards
Finding Tara will result in Gale receiving the Ring of Blink, which allows its users to travel to the Ethereal Plane to become temporarily safe from attacks until they return.
Bringing the letters back to Danzo Arkwright will reward you with 320 Gold but this can be increased to 640 Gold if you pass an Ability Check.
Verdict
It seems that the Zhentarim have been using Danzo Arkwright’s services for their gain and he is making more profit from these illegal activities.
Danzo Arkwright won’t be much of a threat when it comes to letters and extorting him for more Gold does not seem to have any dire consequences.
You can head straight to the roof of the Open Hand Temple to find Tara even without speaking to the pigeons as they are only spoken to for hints.
