Lava Elementals are creatures that can manipulate the lava around them and even create their own, which are known to deal fire damage to those unlucky enough to be close to them.
The most common location where you find these creatures is in Grymforge, where one can be seen patrolling the area, and more in Sorcerous Sundries.
What makes these elementals difficult to fight is their ability to continuously regenerate their health but there are certain ways to put it at a disadvantage.
Lava Elemental Location
The very first Lava Elemental that you often encounter is the one near the Adamantine Forge, which can be seen roaming around an area near the forge that is covered in lava.
Another can be found along with a Water Elemental when you are at the Sorcerous Sundries later after you have progressed to Act III.
How To Defeat a Lava Elemental?
The first thing to keep in mind is that Lava Elementals cannot jump, which makes it an advantage to keep yourself at a distance to be able to freely attack it.
Lava Elementals are weak against Cold Damage, making it a good idea to have a Spellcaster that has Cold Spells and even better, one who wields the Mourning Frost. (Obtained in Underdark)
Using the Create or Destroy Water spell (if available) can give you an advantage as this will make the Lava Elemental weak against Cold (and Lightning) damage.
One of the more important spells is Bone Chill as this will prevent the Lava Elemental from healing, especially since it can recover all its health.
The key is to use Bone Chill on the Lava Elemental while keeping your distance and using Cold Spells will easily kill this creature.
Adamantine Forge Lava Elemental
The Adamantine Forge Lava Elemental may be a difficult enemy at first, but you can defeat this enemy by attacking it from a distance and luring it back to the forge.
Have all your party members leap to the forge and this will leave the Lava Elemental on the other side, making it incapable of attacking you. (It is all free hits from here on)
Now that the Lava Elemental is helpless and cannot do anything aside from heal, have a Spellcaster cast Bone Chill and continue dealing damage until it is dead.
Lava Elemental Drops
Defeating a Lava Elemental causes it to drop miscellaneous items that you can sell to merchants later, seeing as the one in the Adamantine Forge drops the following:
- Onyx
- Bloodstone
- Malachite
Verdict
When facing off against a Lava Elemental, it is best to keep your distance as fighting it at close range can end up with your party getting killed.
No matter where a Lava Elemental goes, it can still create its lava and this will allow it to heal indefinitely, which makes the use of Bone Chill a vital spell for killing it.
Lava Elementals are often found guarding areas and are less likely to attack you unless you get too close or tend to attack it first. (They give good experience too)
