If you have met Sovereign Spaw of the Myconid Colony, you may have ended up doing him a favor that involves fighting the Duergar.
After a simple quest to defeat some of the intruders who have been slaying members of Sovereign Spaw’s colony, he asks for more.
Sovereign Spaw demands the head of the source of the Duergar attackers, which sends you after a Drow named Nere.
Nere Location
Nere is located in Grymforge, which is a location found within the Underdark that has been taken over after being abandoned for a long time.
Once you reach Grymforge, you will be instructed by some of the Duergar to head to a cave-in where True Soul Nere is trapped.
How To Kill Nere?
There are multiple ways for you to handle Nere as picking certain sides will often get you on the wrong side of a fight that happens after he is freed.
Should you decide to take Nere’s side and attack the Duergar, you end up fighting them with him barely helping but refusing to fight will have him turn them against you instead.
If you talk to one of the Duergar near the cave-in called Brithvar, you can talk him into conspiring against Nere, which will give you several allies in the fight.
An easy way to have Nere end up dead is to simply do a couple of Long Rests after reaching the cave-in, which will result in the debris being cleared without your help.
Nere will be found dead once you are done with a few Long Rests and his body will be accessible near the Deep Gnomes were digging.
How To Take Nere’s Head?
Once Nere is dead, you will be able to remove his head by interacting with his body and once his inventory has been opened, a cutscene will begin.
During the cutscene, your character will approach Nere’s dead body and crouch down while holding a knife to the corpse’s throat.
From here you can sever Nere’s head, which will result in it being placed in your inventory to take back to Sovereign Spaw or Sovereign Glut if he had taken over the colony.
Deliver Nere’s Head Quest Reward
Returning Nere’s head to one of the Sovereign will result in you obtaining a reward, which is different depending on who oversees the colony.
If Nere’s head is given to Sovereign Spaw, you will be rewarded with the Envoy’s Amulet, which allows its wearer to grant an ally a bonus to persuasion.
Delivering Nere’s head to Sovereign Glut will result in you getting the Champion’s Chain, which allows its wearer to grant an ally a bonus to Intimidation.
Verdict
It looks like the Myconid Colony has had enough with the Duergar invaders and this time you have been asked to go straight to their source.
This leads to a chain of events that have you exploring the Grymforge as you search for a way to get him out of the cave-in just to kill him afterward. (A lot of experience if you resort to fighting him)
You will only be able to cut off Nere’s head during the Deliver Nere’s Head quest as the option will no longer be available after progressing further.
