Baldur’s Gate 3 has a lot of secrets that you can find and one of them is the Festering Cove, where you can find a would-be God being worshiped by a group of Kuo-Toa.
Because of their worship, the being known as BOOOAL has gained power, and upon your arrival, he demands a sacrifice, which means you’re the target.
However, things can go differently as you can turn things around and end up getting BOOOAL’s Blessing depending on how you handle the situation.
BOOOAL’s Benediction Condition
BOOOAL’s Blessing, which is officially called BOOOAL’s Benediction, is a buff that provides the characters affected with an Advantage on Attack Rolls against bleeding creatures.
This means that if you are about to attack a creature that is affected by Bleeding, there is a better chance that you will hit it and deal more damage.
You may obtain BOOOAL’s Benediction by gaining his favor, which is done by making a mess and shedding blood in his presence within the Festering Cove.
How To Get BOOOAL’s Blessing?
1) Pass Ability Checks
Speaking to BOOOAL during the cutscene and refusing to offer a sacrifice can still get you the blessing in a way but this is in the form of a weapon.
BOOOAL will give you BOOOAL’s Sickle if you choose the following dialogue:
“I have only one life. But I can kill many more in your name.”
This will require you to pass a Persuasion Check and if successful, BOOOAL will give you the sickle, but no one will get the buff.
Instead, whoever wields BOOOAL’s Sickle will have an Advantage on Attack Rolls against creatures that are Bleeding.
2) Sacrifice A Party Member
BOOOAL demands blood the moment you arrive and the fastest way to get his blessing would be to sacrifice a member of your party. (You won’t be able to resurrect them after)
If you choose to sacrifice one of your party members, you will have a choice during a cutscene and once someone has been picked out, your party will have to fight them.
After you have killed the member that you wished to sacrifice, BOOOAL will give his blessing to the remaining characters in the party.
3) Steal The Sickle of BOOOAL
If you want to get BOOOAL’s Benediction without sacrificing anyone from your party, you will need to get sneaky and steal the Sickle of BOOOAL from Pooldripp the Zealous.
This Kuo-Toa has the Sickle of BOOOAL in its inventory and to get it, you will need to separate one member of your party, who will steal the sickle.
Have your other members approach the group of Kuo-Toa to trigger the cutscene and switch to your other character and have them steal the Sickle of BOOOAL.
This can be done by making them drink a Potion of Invisibility, using an item or spell that grants invisibility as hiding won’t work due to the Kuo-Toa having Darkvision.
Pickpocket the Sickle of BOOOAL from Pooldripp and continue with the conversation where you need to offer another solution, which is to select the following line:
“Well? Bow before BOOOAL’s Chosen!”
At this point, BOOOAL is supposed to give you the sickle, but since you already have it, your whole party will obtain BOOOAL’s Benediction instead.
Verdict
BOOOAL’s Benediction can be a useful bonus to have for your whole party but if your enemies do not end up Bleeding the majority of the time, it won’t be active often.
Since it is possible to get buff for the whole party, it would be ideal to aim for this since all it takes is a Potion of Invisibility or other methods to make it invisible.
The buff is said to remain if there are Kua-Toa left to worship, which will remain this way unless you kill them in the Festering Cove.
