The Dark Amethyst may be found in the western part of the Whispering Depths, which is also where the pit leading to the Underdark may be found.

If you go around the pit, it will be hard for you to miss this quest item due to its purplish bright glow that it emits from a distance.

How To Get Dark Amethyst?

To get the Dark Amethyst, you will need to enter the Whispering Depths and make your way to the west until you reach a large pit.

There will be a Phase Spider Matriarch guarding the area along with other enemies that you will encounter, which will lead to a fight.

Once you have dealt with the Phase Spider Matriarch and the other enemies in the area, you may simply pick up the Dark Amethyst.

Dark Amethyst Uses

Dark Amethyst is used to open the Necromancy of Thay

The Dark Amethyst is used as a key to open the Necromancy of Thay, which needs to be inserted in the slot that appears as a skeletal mouth.

This can be done by using the Necromancy of Thay from your inventory, which will give you the option to insert the Dark Amethyst into it.

From here on, you will be able to read through the tome if you pass the Wisdom Checks and may continue to unveil its secrets in Act III.

How To Get Necromancy of Thay?

The Necromancy of Thay is a Tome that can be found in the Apothecary’s Cellar, which is in the Apothecary’s Building in the Blighted Village.

You will need to head into the building and go down a trap door that leads you to an Ornate Mirror, which you will need to interact with to answer questions.

Answering all the questions correctly will open a path that leads into the Apothecary’s Cellar where the Necromancy of Thay may be found behind a Rusted Gate.

Verdict

While the Necromancy of Thay may not be that useful in Act I, it can have several benefits when you seek help to unveil its secrets in Act III.

You should be careful when venturing into the Whispering Depths as there are enemies that can be challenging if you have just started.

Defeating the Phase Spider Matriarch is suggested after clearing the other parts of the area to avoid facing off against too many enemies.
