If you explore the Myconid Colony, you may find a woman named Derryth who seems to be looking for her husband, who gives you the Find the Mushroom Picker quest.
It turns out that she sent him on an errand to find Noblestalk but being that her husband, who goes by the name of Baelen, is clumsy.
You have the option to help her out by searching for Baelen and regardless of if she mentions there will be no reward, she still gives you something as a token of her gratitude.
Where To Find Baelen?
Baelen went off to the western part of the Underdark, which you can reach by traveling west from the Myconid Colony.
This will bring you near the Sussur Tree but before you reach it, there will be tangled vines that you can take to go down.
Make your way to the section filled with Bibberbang, which is a type of large mushroom that explodes when you approach it, which causes Noxious Fumes to spread.
Once you arrive at Baelen’s location, a cutscene will begin where he tells you to stop to prevent you from setting off the Bibberbang in the area.
How To Help Baelen?
Approaching the Bibberbang mushrooms will cause them to explode, causing a chain reaction of Noxious Fumes being spread but there is also a torch nearby, which ignites everything.
To help Baelen, you will need to give him a Scroll of Misty Step, which can be found in his bag just ahead of you if you are facing the area.
The following are the best ways to save Baelen:
1) Throw Scroll of Misty Step
If you happen to have a Scroll of Misty Step on you or at your camp, you can go back and grab one before initiating the conversation with Baelen.
You can also purchase a Scroll of Misty Step from Blurg, who is a merchant that lives amongst the Myconid Colony. (Requires Strength Check – 10)
2) Use Mage Hand Spell
Another way to save Baelen is to cast the Mage Hand spell, which gives you an ethereal hand that will not trigger the Bibberbang if it gets nearby.
Send your Mage Hand to Baelen’s bag so that you can drag it to him but make sure to place it near him or else he may walk into some Bibberbang.
Rewards For Saving Baelen
Derryth may have mentioned that she would not reward you for helping but in the end, she pulls through with a useful pair of gloves.
The reward is the Bloves of Uninhibited Kushigo, which increases the damage of Throw Attacks and Improvised Weapons.
Before you head back to Derryth to give her the news of Baelen returning, you will receive a Scroll of Invisibility from him before he heads back.
Noblestalk
If you happen to obtain the Noblestalk in the Bibberbang Grotto, which can be done by first dowsing/removing the torch to prevent explosions, you decide what to do with it.
Should you show the Noblestalk to Derryth, she will ask for it and if you give it to her, you can meet her later at Baldur’s Gate 3 in Act III to find that she now sells plenty there.
If you use the Noblestalk to heal Baelen, he can be found running their store and it will be discovered that he and Derryth are no longer together.
Verdict
Baelen can be very clumsy, which makes it important that you avoid forcing him to move when you are trying to get him out.
The Find The Mushroom Picker quest can be initiated by talking to Derryth or if you run into Baelen, which will result in the same rewards.
Depending on if Baelen survives and what you do with the Noblestalk, Baelen, and Derryth will be affected when you reach Act III.
