Should You Help Sovereign Glut & Rewards for Saving Him: BG3

While in the Underdark, you might stumble upon the Myconid Colony that is led by Sovereign Spaw and this creature asks for your help with taking out the Duergar.

If you happen to look around the colony, you will find a creature named Sovereign Glut, whose colony was killed by the Duergar.

Sovereign Glut has asked for your help in getting revenge by killing the Duergar but later wants more, which involves killing Sovereign Spaw so that Glut can take over the colony.

Sovereign Glut bg3

Who is Sovereign Glut?

Sovereign Glut is one of the Myconid that you encounter, who used to have his colony until they were slaughtered by the Duergar.

As a result of past events, Glut has remained in Sovereign Spaw’s circle, but he holds a grudge against Spaw for not retaliating.

This has led Glut to seek revenge against not only the Duergar but also against Sovereign Spaw, who he wishes to overthrow to take over his colony.

Should You Help Glut?

Helping Sovereign Glut involves betraying Sovereign Spawn and this requires that you kill him for Glut to take over.

This is more of an antagonist type of move and should you decide to help Glut take it, the remaining members of the colony will follow him.

Not much change as you will still be sent by Glut to attack the Duergar intruders at their source and you get different rewards for helping him.

Killing Sovereign Spaw

Killing Sovereign Spaw as requested by Sovereign Glut involves attacking him straightforwardly as he is the main target after you have helped Glut.

You may choose to kill Sovereign Glut at any time to keep yourself on Sovereign Spaw’s side depending on how you wish to play through the story.

While the other members of the circle will fight alongside Sovereign Spaw, the moment Glut comes out victorious, the other Myconid will stop being hostile.

What Happens To The Myconid Colony?

Myconid Colony

After Sovereign Spaw is killed, Sovereign Glut will take over the circle and the song that is sung will change from peaceful to a war-like song instead.

You will notice a different behavior from the Myconid Colony once Glut has taken over but will still be able to interact with the vendors.

This mainly makes Sovereign Spaw’s colony have an ambiance related to battle, which is fueled by Glut’s anger and hunger for vengeance.

Rewards For Helping Glut

Should you help Sovereign Glut, he will reward you with the Winter’s Clutches, which are Uncommon Gloves that allow you to inflict Encrusted Frost on targets.

Encrusted With Frost has a chance to cause enemies to take Cold damage and become frozen unless they pass a Constitution Check, causing them to take only half damage.

If Glut has been made the new Sovereign of the colony, returning Nere’s Head to him will result in you being rewarded with the Champion’s Chain instead of the Envoy’s Amulet.

The Champion’s Chain provides you with the ability to provide bonus Intimidation to an ally while the Envoy’s Amulet grants Persuasion.

Verdict

It is unknown if Glut was always so aggressive, but it seems that he took it against Sovereign Spaw that nothing was done to save his circle.

This led to Glut wanting to take out Sovereign Spaw so that he may once again have his circle and will most likely become aggressive to the rest of the Underdark.

Siding with Glut does not have a major impact and regardless of who is the Sovereign, you will still be able to explore the Myconid Colony and interact with its merchants.
