While exploring the Sunlit Wetlands, you will come across two brothers who are harassing an old woman named Auntie Ethel who they claim is holding their sister Mayrina.
This begins the Save Mayrina quest that has you pursuing the two only to find them dead before you eventually find Mayrina being held in Auntie Ethel’s tea house.
From here you will either get into a fight with Auntie Ethel or may later encounter her once you go deep within her lair.
How To Find Mayrina?
Before you can try to save Mayrina, you will have to find her and the first time you will see her is in the Gnarled Teahouse.
The Gnarled Teahouse can be found in the swamp to the south of the Blighted Village and once you head inside, you will be confronted by Auntie Ethel.
It will be revealed that Mayrina is being held captive by Auntie Ethel and is being forced to eat but she is later teleported away by her captor, leaving you to search for her.
To avoid a more difficult conflict with Auntie Ethel, you may fight her in advance and defeat her in the Gnarled Tea House.
Rescuing Mayrina
Depending on how your confrontation with Auntie Ethel goes, you will end up fighting her or will be free to explore the tea house and will need to head to the fireplace.
You can turn off the fire and walk along a path that is revealed but you should be careful since Auntie Ethel may turn hostile if she sees you entering.
You will need to continue exploring her lair until you find a living door that you need to get past, and this can be done by first talking to it until it lets you through. (You can walk through it)
How To Put Out Burning Cage?
Continue making your way through the lair until you find some of Auntie Ethel’s followers and fight your way past them until you reach the next area that is full of traps.
Getting past the traps and making your way down will bring you to where Mayrina is being held in a cage that Auntie Ethel will set on fire.
To put out the fire, you can use a character that has the Create Water spell or throw a bottle of Water at the cage, and this will reduce the flames.
Failing to put out the fire will cause the cage to fall after a certain number of turns, which will cause Mayrina to die.
If you have defeated Auntie Ethel in advance, you won’t need to douse the fire and may not encounter her in the area.
How To Free Mayrina?
Once the fire has been put out and you have defeated Auntie Ethel, you may approach the Control Orb near the cage to free Mayrina.
This will be easier if Auntie Ethel has been dealt with previously to avoid a fight and you can simply walk up to the orb and interact with it.
After interacting with the Control Orb, the cage will be lowered and Mayrina will be released but she won’t be happy since she had a deal with Auntie Ethel to save her husband.
Verdict
In the end, saving Mayrina results in her becoming upset as the deal was for her to obey Auntie Ethel and even sacrifice her child to bring back her husband.
If you continue through the lair, you will find an item called Second Marriage, which you can use to resurrect Mayrina’s husband, but this just turns him into a zombie.
You can later decide to keep her husband as your loyal zombie buddy or may give her Second Marriage so she can control him and leave to find a way to bring him back to his former self.
