How To Open Wooden Chests in Baldur’s Gate 3 (Blighted Village Blacksmith)

If you have gotten your way past the Shabby Wooden Door in the Blighted Village, you will find yourself within a Blacksmith’s Shop or what appears to be its basement.

There are a lot of items that you can loot within the building but one of the chests inside has decent loot worth grabbing.

This Wooden Chest may be opened in various ways, making it easy to get the loot within easily if you haven’t found the key for it yet.

Wooden Chests (Blighted Village)

How To Open Wooden Chest?

You can open the Wooden Chest by using the Heavy Key, which is found outside of the building, and this will allow any character to unlock the chest.

If you have Thieves’ Tools with you, this can be used for lockpicking the Wooden Chest if you have a character skilled enough to use it.

Your last option and probably another easy one would be to destroy the chest, and this can be done if you can deal enough damage to it.

Where To Get Heavy Key?

If you happen to scout around the area, you will notice that there is a key near the Blacksmith’s Building, and this can be used to open the Wooden Chest.

The Hard Key is often missed by players, especially if you have gotten in a tough situation with the Goblins waiting to ambush adventurers.

Head around the side of the building and you will find the Hard Key under some logs near a broken section of the Blight Village wall.

Wooden Chest Contents

Opening the Wooden Chest using the Hard Key or other means to access its inventory will allow you to obtain the following:

Blacksmith’s Note

Within the Wooden Chest is a Blacksmith’s Note, which seems to be describing the Infernal Iron that you also get within the chest.

It gives slight detail on how rare the material is and hints that it is difficult to obtain but for some reason, the person who stashed it had gotten their hands on one.

Verdict

Opening the contents of the Wooden Chest can be a good way to get your hands on a new two-handed sword for characters that are proficient with them.

The Infernal Iron will come in handy later if you decide to use it to upgrade Karlach’s Heart or if you would like Dammon to craft new items for you.

Smashing the Wooden Chest won’t be an issue since this chest is weaker than most destroyable objects that you may encounter in the game.
