Leveling up your character is an important part of becoming stronger in Baldur’s Gate and each character will be able to level up.
Unlike most RPG games, leveling up doesn’t happen automatically and requires that you do this once your character has gained enough experience.
Once your character has enough experience, the option to level up appears on their portrait and you can select the arrow to proceed.
What Happens When You Level Up?
Once you select to level up, you will be brought to a screen where you see the stat changes that your character gets.
Depending on your character’s class and which level they have reached, more features will be unlocked, and you can choose from different options.
This will allow you to improve your character by choosing new abilities, spells, actions and more based on their new level and their class.
How To Gain Experience?
Experience is gained as you progress through the story and complete quests along the way, making it good to complete as much as you can.
Defeating high level enemies or coming out victorious in battle against multiple enemies can earn you a decent amount of experience as well.
Exploring Faerun and discovering new areas along your journey will also provide you with experience as you progress.
Sometimes you can gain experience from talking your way through an area where a fight should occur to avoid it and you can come back later to fight after the experience is gained.
Each act in Baldur’s Gate provides you with a lot to discover, making it a good idea to explore and complete quests before focusing on the main story.
Max Level in BG3
Currently, the maximum level that your characters can reach is 12, which is not considered to be so low since it takes time to level up.
As you progress through the game, your character will slowly gain experience and those who are left at camp will also catch up once you switch another party member for them.

Leveling up is an important part of the game as you will need to increase your character’s stats by increasing their level once they have gotten enough experience.
Enemies that you encounter later will be stronger and without being at the right level, you may end up losing battles often.
