When you start Baldur’s Gate 3, you are placed on a ship called the Nautiloid where you need to escape and after doing so, your journey around Faerun begins.
The thing is that during the Escape the Nautiloid quest, you have a chance to obtain a powerful weapon called the Everburn Blade and this makes your early adventures easier.
To obtain this weapon, you will need to first take down a powerful enemy with a limited amount of time as you make your escape from the ship.

Where To Find Everburn Blade?
The Everburn Blade can be obtained during the Escape the Nautiloid quest, which has you and any members you have added to your party reaching the helm.
You can only get the Everburn Blade during this part of the quest, which is where you are instructed to reach the ship’s transponder.
While you are at the helm, you will find a Mind Flayer fighting a demon called Commander Zhalk, who has the Everburn Blade.
How To Get Everburn Blade?
To get the Everburn Blade, you will need to loot the body of Commander Zhalk but this doesn’t mean you need to rush in and do all the fighting, but you surely need to help out.
Commander Zhalk will be fighting a Mind Flayer, and you can leave most of the damage between the two of them but may need to help out.
Once Commander Zhalk has been killed, you may loot his body while another character stands by waiting to interact with the Transponder as Cambions will be making their way to you.
How To Defeat Commander Zhalk?
Defeating Commander Zhalk can be difficult even if you are on the easier difficulties, which may require some coordination between your characters.
Since the Mind Flayer will be dealing most of the damage, you may want to buff him using Shadowheart while your other characters deal damage.
Shadowheart has powerful spells that can be used to deal a significant amount of damage to Commander Zhalk to help the Mind Flayer defeat him.
A good way to ensure your success would be quicksaving whenever you successfully deal damage since most of your attacks will miss. (Load quicksave when you miss attacks)
Mind Flayer Betrayal
When you enter the helm, the Mind Flayer will instruct you to ignore the demon and get to the Transponder but if you help him, this ends in betrayal.
Once Commander Zhalk has been dealt with, the Mind Flayer will turn its sites to you and will say you are no longer needed, which results in you fighting him instead.
This makes it important to have a character heading to the Transponder when Commander Zhalk is about to be defeated unless you want to loot the Mind Flayer.
The Mind Flayer will drop a Bloodstone, which can be sold to Traders early to get a decent amount of Gold early.
Verdict
The fight with Commander Zhalk is a tough one and most players cannot succeed with their first try due to their character’s absence.
Fortunately, every time you load a save and throw an attack, the chance to hit or miss will be random, and you can eventually guarantee dealing damage with each turn.
If you manage to obtain the Everburn Blade early on in the game, you can progress easily due to the damage you can deal to enemies.
